V's is correct. Altho the simultaneous kick w the snare in the 2nd bar was evidently occasionally done by Jeff AW. [img]wink.gif[/img]

I've also seen it where a kick is placed on the 3rd partial of the 2nd quarter in bar 2 right b4 the sn upbeat [on the unaccented hat in the RH shuffle pattern]. Si's been sighted doing this AW.

On the orig recording, he only plays the ghosted snare on the second partial of the very last quarter/ triplet of beat 4 in the 2nd bar, at the end of the phrase [between the hats & b4 the "pick-up" kick note back into the 1 of the 1st bar again]...as you stated.

Somehow after all these yrs & other great players' emulations it has become quite the "ghost-fest" now [during every triplet between the shuffled hats]... [img]wink.gif[/img] [img]cool.gif[/img]

I always dug Bonzo's Fool/Rain. Years ago [In the Beginning] it Tweeked me because i couldn't get the sticking to sound exactly like his...until i discovered that the open accented hats on the last partial of the 1st bar's triplet were done by accenting the RH on the "1st" note of the shuffle pattern [or better said, the 3rd note of the phrase - simultaneously w the kick drum; or also understood as the second note committed w the RH on hat, after the first LH sn ghost in the phrase], where you'd normally accent the "2nd" [the "shufflle" HH pattern] on every other one but that one.
...Did that make sense? WEell, it did to me at the time i was recklessly typing that. I'm not even going to bother proofreading that. Anyone seen my Darvocets?

That intro thing is true. But he starts to add another ghost note here and there shortly after the keys and guitars enter - before the first vocal entrance. From there on, he adds more notes, eventually arriving at the "ghost-fest" we all know and love.

Si [& Gregg] helped further turn it into the ghost fest...<s>[of which Weckl is probably undisputed king]</s>. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Substituting a snare note for a bass drum note in that pattern was (I believe) primarily a musical choice, and a good one at that. Some drummers will force an idea into a musical situation, Jeff was too musical for that sort of thing.
